Product Description

A population of chickens (or other livestock, or plants) that has been developed over many centuries through natural selection and the effort of breeders to select for characteristics best suited to local needs and the local environment. The resulting chickens are genetically consistent enough to be considered a breed but are not as consistently uniform in appearance as a breed that has been standardized. Typically, a landrace may be fairly uniform in size, laying ability, and hardiness but may not be uniform in plumage color or eggshell color or in the appearance of such features as beards, crests, or feathered legs.
