Product Description
This is a layer breed developed in Norway’s Jaer district from a landrace breed that existed prior to the importation of chickens from outside the country. The Jaerhon is a small, hardy chicken with a single comb and may be large or bantam. It comes in two recognized varieties, light (or light yellow) and dark (or dark brown) but also typically throws sports from which other color varieties are being developed.
The breed is autosexing: Light chicks are yellow. and the pullets have a brown stripe running down the back; dark chicks are brown with a yellow head spot, the cockerels’ spot being larger than the pullets’.
The hens are good layers of white-shell eggs and seldom brood. They are capable fliers and require a high fence or a covered run to keep them from flying outside the yard to lay.
