An ancient breed originating in Spain as a layer but now quite rare and considered primarily ornamental. The cock has long, white, overdeveloped earlobes and white skin around the eyes, making the face look like it’s been covered with white paint. A large, bright-red single comb; long red wattles; and solid black plumage combine to make the white-faced black Spanish unmistakably distinctive. The hen looks similar, although her face isn’t nearly as white and her comb flops to one side.
