Product Description
It is an ancient breed developed in Egypt, where this chicken is widely known; Fayoum, one of the Egyptian governorates, includes both the Fayoum Oasis and the capital city of Fayoum. The Fayoumi is a small chicken with a scrawny, forward-angled neck and an equally scrawny tail that angles forward at almost 90 degrees, giving it an overall appearance that’s reminiscent of a roadrunner.
These chickens are particularly disease resistant, excellent foragers, and strong fliers. They tend to be somewhat nervous and are extremely vocal when handled. They have a large single comb, come in a single black-and-white color pattern, and have no bantam counterpart. The hens are outstanding layers of small eggs with tinted shells and are not inclined toward broodiness when young but may brood as they age.
